The Good, the Bad, the It Is What It Is

Sept 2009. In no order of importance, I give you:

Good

  • Family. They love me. I love them. (thanks mum for the awesome letter that i received today).
  • Friends. I really miss my good friends sometimes! And they are so far away. Marsha is about to have her baby. Michelle is about to present her first conference paper. Tiffany is married and madly in love. I am so proud of them. Awwww. And I miss meals with Sonja. And Guitar Hero with Matt. And everyone else, I loves ya all.
  • New friends.
  • Finally finishing Couch to 5K. (and still going!). Holy shit if I can do that I can pretty much do anything.
  • Trying out a new work path and learning new things.
  • Moving soon to a fab house in a fab neighbourhood.
  • Getting my US drivers license.
  • Dan. For putting up with the good, the bad, and the other.

Bad

  • Being the hardass that I am, failing my driving test the first time. Humiliating. Parallel parking. Pffft.
  • Reuben soon to be leaving the country (more for Dan’s sake really).
  • Migraines. Yep, still get them.
  • Eating too much.
  • Drinking too much.
  • Acting like a juvenile too much.

It Is What It Is

  • American football. I may never like it. (or understand it. or respect it).
  • Finally realising that I am unable to function properly in life if I don’t have constant change and work towards meaningful goals that I can cross off a list.
  • Say Hello, Vanessa

the big 3-0

V: I have turned 30 today. Boo. No more hiding behind my 20s. Oh well. I don’t think I actually look 30 though ;)

It has been a nice weekend. On Friday had dinner with friends at Lamont’s in East Perth. Setting is lovely, food is overpriced. I drank a wee bit too much and felt off all weekend. Saturday I did lots of sleeping. Sunday had lunch with dad.

Sunday evening Dan and I did a star viewing tour at the Perth Observatory. Interesting stuff, looking at the moon was the best bit though. This came about because a little while ago I was watching Compass  on the ABC and on came a program about John Dobson. The program was actually a documentary called A Sidewalk Astronomer and I found it completely fascinating. I had never heard of Dobson before but this guy is one interesting man. He is an astonomer and among other things, designed a telescope and co-founded the Sidewalk Astonomers. What an awesome thing to make telescopes available to the general public to view the sky! If I was more intelligent I would loved to have become an astronomer!!

Anyhoo, today I had the day off work, did some chores, and had lunch with the lovely Kay and Sandy. This evening we had a family dinner in Vic Park, and I got to have my special indulgence of a doughnut cake. Sweet sweet doughnut cake.

Now in other news – our trip to the US in Feb/Mar is taking shape very well. The accommodation in Maui, Waikiki and LA is booked (Vegas to go) as well as all the flights. Am going to book a few activities before leaving also. Am very hard at work researching all of this!! Also, we now have grass in the yard!!! Yay – I will have to post some pics. I hope it lasts for a few months….

Also I am a bad, bad friend! I forgot to wish Eric a happy birthday for last week. Happy Birthday E!!!!

Some things to tick off

Dropped Dan at the airport Saturday morning.

Had the final measure for our built-in wardrobe. Hooray.

Finished my tax.

Sunday saw Thank You for Smoking at Luna with Sonja. Quite enjoyed it. Saw 2 previews for movies that interested me – Little Miss Sunshine and Art School Confidential. Also want to see The Devil Wears Prada, An Inconvenient Truth and Friends With Money (except for the fact that Jennifer Aniston is in it).

Have started the boys on new “premium” (read $$$) dry food. They are dining on Eukanuba Adult Natural Lamb & Rice formula. Yes it is more expensive but we can feed them less and I am hoping there will be less gas, less sloppy and giant poop, and less tummy troubles all round. Plus they have a deal where every 10th bag is free. Also on the dogs, I took them walking indivually for the first time today. They both whined when being left alone, though Rosso in particular cried like a little girl when we left him behind. Could hear him all the way down the street. They actually walk quite well on their own.

Blah blah blah blah

I have a coldsore the size of a house and am sulking indefinately :(

However, HAPPY BIRTHDAY SONJA!

Aug 15 2006

finally speaking online

I feel like a single parent with two naughty little boys while Dan is away.

Not much going on this week. Not a huge fan of the rain. Loving my little purple Sony. Looking forward to having a half day at work on Friday. And Dan being back then too!

Oh and tonight Dan and I finally had the Ymessenger with Voice happening, talking via the internet for nothing, about time we sorted that out. If anyone else out there wants to try it out let me know! All you need is version 8 of Yahoo Messenger and a microphone.

Sunday

Dropped Dan at the airport, he’s in the Hunter Valley this week.

I bought one of these today, in violet. I am going to get one of the armbands too. I prefer this over the ipod because it has radio. And 1 gig is more than plenty for me.

Gah

People just annoy me sometimes. Especially people that don’t think of others. I just have way too high expectations.  That is all.

First anniversary

Yes, we made a year of marriage. Who would have thought! Yesterday was the day. We didn’t do much to celebrate, seeing as though we spent a fair bit of cash down in Margaret River. Mum, John, Tom and Carole dropped by in the afternoon and we had cake and champers to celebrate. For dinner we just went to our local, had more champers and, of course, ate too much.

Not much

V here. Well Dan is in Indonesia for work atm. He left Saturday morning and gets back Saturday week. I am quite used to it now, being by myself and him away. Not as lonely as I was in the beginning.

First post

Hello world. This is Vanessa and Dan’s little place in the world to communicate with the ones we love. And bitch and moan when we feel like it.
